Do you dream of spending a few days in Los Angeles, but find yourself hesitating when faced with the plethora of hotels on offer?
If you love places steeped in history, juicy anecdotes and a chic atmosphere with a hint of rock’n’roll, let me tell you about the Sunset Marquis, a legendary hotel nestled in the heart of West Hollywood.
A legendary hotel in the heart of Hollywood
The Sunset Marquis is much more than just a hotel. For over 50 years, it has attracted rock stars, actors, models and globetrotters in search of a unique experience.
The original Playboy Club was founded by George Rosenthal. The hotel soon became the unofficial HQ of legendary rock bands: The Doors, The Who, Led Zeppelin… Then, from the 70s to the 90s, it was the turn of Blondie, The Clash, Green Day, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Aerosmith. Elton John, Phil Collins and Julio Iglesias were also present.
The unofficial motto of the place at the time? Sex, drugs and rock’n’roll.
Later, movie stars were also seduced: George Clooney, Jennifer Aniston, Owen Wilson, not forgetting Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart during the Twilight era.
Today, although the hotel has mellowed, it retains its unique aura and offers 154 suites and villas, a refined restaurant, a spa and… a recording studio. We’re not denying our roots.
Where does the name Sunset Marquis come from?
A little anecdote: George Rosenthal named the hotel after his son Markey (Mark A. Rosenthal), born a few weeks before the opening.
Thus was born the Sunset Marquis, a contraction of the mythical Sunset Boulevard and a family tribute.
