Launched in 2005, Flying Blue is the loyalty program of the French airline Air France but also of the KLM, Hop !, Transavia, Kenya Airways, Aircalin and Tarom. With more than 14,000 flights a day and more than 1,000 destinations, it is one of the largest frequent flyer programs in the world.<\/p>\n

It offers 4 official different statuses: Ivory, Silver, Gold and Platinum. Let me clarify “official”, because there are secret Flying Blue statuses such as Club 2000, Platinum Ultimate<\/a> and many others.<\/p>\n

Since then, the program has changed a lot since its creation. Award miles and status miles have disappeared to make way for a single category of miles and the appearance of XP points.<\/p>\n

The new Flying Blue program is for some more clear, for others much less advantageous.<\/p>\n

What is Flying Blue?<\/h2>\n

It is the loyalty program of Air France<\/a>, but also of KLM, Air Calin, Keyna Airways, Hop! or Transavia.<\/p>\n

The primary step before you start earning miles is to sign up for the program for free by going to the program site.<\/p>\n

Once a member, you will be an EXPLORER member, the basic level. Here is the list of all the levels, which you can get by earning XP points over a calendar year:<\/p>\n

What are the different Flying Blue statuses?<\/h2>\n

The statuses range from EXPLORER status to Platinum status. I invite you to discover all the list of advantages in the comparison table<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Note that once an Elite Plus member (Gold or Platinum), you become an Elite Plus member on the entire Skyteam alliance, which I present to you a little below.<\/p>\n

How many Miles will I earn per Air France flight?<\/h2>\n

Since April 1, 2018, Miles earnings are calculated with two criteria: The price of your plane ticket and your status.<\/p>\n

Gains are only made on the price of the ticket and surcharges, taxes are not taken into account.<\/p>\n

For example, an explorer member who buys a ticket for \u20ac 1,000 will earn Flying Blue Miles<\/a> on the amount of \u20ac 700 (Ticket price and carrier supplement), i.e. \u20ac 700 X 4 = 2,800 Miles<\/p>\n

What is the difference between Status Miles and Award Miles?<\/h2>\n

Miles earned on a Skyteam flight are generally status miles. All other Miles such as Flying Blue bonuses or miles earned from partners are award miles. This changed in May 2018 to see the miles) – statutes disappear in favor of XP Flying Blue points.<\/p>\n

You can use them for free flights or upgrades but they do not count towards the mileage-status counter required to change status.<\/p>\n

How valid are Flying Blue Miles?<\/h2>\n

After earning Miles thanks to a flight or a purchase made with your Bank Of American credit card card, the Miles on your Flying Blue account have a validity extension.<\/p>\n

So remember to travel at least once every 24 times on Air France or Skyteam, or simply make purchases with an American Express Air France card.<\/p>\n

What is Skyteam?<\/h2>\n

It’s a global alliance of 20 airlines, but that’s not really what matters to us.<\/p>\n

Your loyalty to Air France and your status allow you to benefit from all your advantages over the entire alliance!<\/p>\n

For example, if you have Flying Blue Gold status, you have several advantages. For example, priority check-in (Sky Priority), priority boarding, access to business lounges.<\/p>\n

If you are traveling on a Delta Airlines flight, link your reservation to your member number.<\/p>\n

You will have the same benefits without being a member of SkyMiles, Delta’s loyalty program.<\/p>\n

Be faithful to a whole alliance but with a single loyalty program, and in our case we are talking about Air France Flying Blue<\/a>.<\/p>\n
